My Friend The Social Media Queen
In the circle of friends that I have made online, I have one girlfriend that is the lady of Social Media. When the rest of us were hearing about this new thing on the net, she was already fully in place on six of these groups and had started three more for her targeted group. If there is something new online, my girlfriend hears about it first.
My friend Lisa led the pack as this new phenomenon came into being across the internet. She sent out emails telling everyone they must join up. The question most of us asked of her was: why? So she began to explain the facts of this new internet tool to all of us.
Lisa told us about this new online device that we could use for targeted marketing. No more spam and no more emailing of lists to people that do not want to read what you sent them. This new media was all about relationships. Though this would at the beginning be a slower way to get your information out, long term these contacts would be targeted people and more beneficial to our business.
She told us that through these new media groups people could get to know you if they were interested in what you were doing, before they jumped on your bandwagon. They could see what you were up to, and watch how you handled yourself. You could begin to build trust, which is what people look for when considering joining a group. Can they trust you?
We all know and trust Lisa, so of course we began to follow her. And we all learned that again she knew what she was talking about. You do build up relationships through this medium. It was more about whom you knew than what you know. It is slower, but relationships can be built and friendships forged.
If no one visits your websites, it will not matter how many of them you have out in cyberspace. These groups help you meet others who would have similar interests, as these are targeted groups. You meet one person who knows twenty or thirty more. When you like something, you want to share the information with others. If your new friend likes your product, and believes that you can be trusted, they will tell all their friends.
Lisa taught us to be picky about which sites we joined. The groups are targeted for different interests and certain ones would work better with your online business than others. For instance you do not want to join the young mothers group if you are selling auto parts. Also she made sure we were aware of not signing up for too many of these groups, as then you are spread too thin and cannot do justice to the relationship building that would be required to make new friends.
Social media is definitely here to stay. As a tool of the online marketer it can be beneficial in promoting his or her venture. Look at the options and locate the site or sites that have similar interests to what you promote. When you have built relationships in that group or groups, they will be interested in what you promote.
